How to get from Heathrow Airport to Gatwick Aiport

Flights booked, luggage checked, keys, tickets, all checked. And then you remember : your flight is coming into Heathrow and out of Gatwick. The next logical questions that pops into your mind is : “How am I going to get from one to the other.”
No worries, we have you covered. You can have your pick between bus, train & taxi.

  Heathrow -Gatwick

          Natioanl Express:

The most popular and direct choice is with the National Express coach to Gatwick. The service runs around-the-clock, up to six times an hour. Journey time is aproximatly 75 minutes and it costs £25 one way or if you book online it only costs £20 one way and £40 return.

Let us take you step by step :

First you need to walk to the Central Bus Station. All buses start/terminate at the Central Bus station (Terminals 2 and 3).

Buses will always visit Terminal 5, but not all schedules visit Terminal 4.

The walk from Terminals 2 or 3 to the bus station takes about 10 minutes. Its luggage trolley friendly and is mostly along moving walkways and lifts. Its also underground so need to worry about the weather.

You can travel free from Terminal 4 to the Central Bus station by Heathrow Express train which runs every 15 minutes.

Train:

Unfortunately, there is no direct rail service between Heathrow to Gatwick.  You must go via central London as follows: train ( Heathrow Express)- tube or taxi - then train ( Gatwick Express/First Capital Connect).
The fastest rail route is as follows:

It takes approximatley 5 to 10 minutes depending on terminal to arrive at the rail station.

Take the Heathrow Express to Paddington station (15 minutes from Heathrow Central Rail station for Terminals 1 and 3, 23 minutes from Terminals 4 or 5. It comes  every 15 minutes and the cost is £19).

From Paddington you go to Farringdon by Circle Line (it takes 16 minutes, but allow 7 minutes for the interchange) - £4.30

From Farringdon you get to Gatwick by First Capital Connect (41 minutes, allow another 5 minutes for the interchange) - £9.90

Gatwick station to South Terminal - 5 minutes

Gatwick station to North Terminal - 15 minutes via shuttle

Total cost: £33.20, travel time at least 1 hour 40 minutes if connections are instant with no waiting for trains to arrive. Sometimes this journey can be significantly longer.

      Minicab & Taxi:

Book a private-hire car to take you between Heathrow and almost anywhere in mainland Britain. Alternatively, hail a classic London black taxi from the rank outside the terminal.

With Minicabit the estimated time is 50 minutes and the cost between Heathrow Airport  and Gatwick is £56.

London's famous black taxis stop at the ranks outside each Heathrow terminal. Drivers are fully licensed and have passed the Knowledge of London examination. All taxis operating at Heathrow have wheelchair access and take credit cards. The cost will likely exceed £100 and you could find a longer wait for one at peak times.

Gatwick-Heathrow

National Express:

Now if you need to get the other way around, you can take the National Express 707 line towards Northampton. Get off at the Heathrow Airport London station ( wich is near Terminal 5). At Gatwick the National Express bus visits both North and South Terminals. For boarding and drops the coach bays are well signed and are directly in front of the passenger terminals, a few yards out of the door.

Train:

From the airport take the Gatwick Express towards London Victoria, get off at the Victoria Station, hop onto Paddington line, get off at Paddington Station, take the Heathrow Express to the terminals. Gatwick Express trains run non-stop between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport. The journey takes 30 minutes and a standard-class single costs £17.70.To make the link with Heathrow your options include: Heathrow Express between Heathrow and London Paddington, Underground between Paddington and Victoria (45min, £27). London Underground between Victoria and Heathrow (50min, £4.80).

Taxi:

Black Taxi cabs can only pick up at Gatwick if they are there for an advance booking. There are other Licensed taxi services available from Gatwick, though. If you have not prebooked, go to the Airport information desk for assistance. Fares vary depending on number of passengers, amount of luggage and time of day.Can be slightly cheaper than London Black Taxis but not by much.
Remember to allow yourself plenty of time! Besides the journey times quoted here you’ll need to take into consideration things like passport control, baggage reclaim, waiting for buses, check-in, airport security and maybe taking a coffee break.

David's Western Caribbean Experience with Celebrity Cruise

David our Cruise Manager was on Cruise to the Western Caribbean with Celebrity last December. He came back all smiles and with a beautiful tan. Obviously all of us back at the office were eager to hear more details about the trip.

The man of the hour started from the top:

“Checked in for my flight to Newark in Dublin with United Airlines, after I went to the Club Lounge to kill some time before I boarded. On board, the entertainment systems had a huge variety of new release movies, tv shows & music. Before me and the other cruise agents could realize we arrived in Newark, New Jersey. The 4 hour layover gave me plenty of time to shop at Jersey Gardens which was only 10 minutes’ drive from the airport. Shopped out, I then flew on to Miami where and transferred to the 4 Star Turnberry Isle Golf Resort & Spa. As a side note I highly recommend this hotel for a 1 to 3 night stay. Its build in a low rise design and has the most amazing tranquil atmosphere- perfect when arriving from a long flight. The rooms are exceptionally large and the bar & restaurant are stunning.

As we arrived at Miami Port the spectacular Celebrity Reflection revealed herself. Only 4 years old, 126,000 tons and accommodating 3000 guests, Reflection looked magnificent, sparkling in the Florida sunshine. Embarkation was ultra-efficient and the staffs were helpful and friendly. The interior design of the ship is luxurious, yet cool and contemporary. There is a great sense of space with plenty of deck space for everyone. Starting near the top, the Lawn Club is an amazing grassed area (yes real grass!) where you can throw down a blanket for a picnic or chill out with a drink at the sunset bar. Or even rent your own cabana for the day.

Decks 3 to 5 are the main entertainment hub of the ship. The resident band played in the Grand Foyer some nights and other nights there was a special guest artist. The Martini bar on deck 4 was a popular spot before and after dinner. The Reflection Theatre had early & late shows (to suit our dining time) with traditional variety style performances. Highlights were The Beatles tribute & The Tenors of Rock. We dined in the main restaurant Opus for breakfast and dinner. The food and service were excellent. We also had an amazing culinary experience in the speciality restaurant “Qsine”. It’s a must do, just leave your preconceived ideas at the door & tuck in! Celebrity Cruises have abandoned their "Formal Dress" nights in favour of "Chic" nights so no need for tuxes & gowns! As always the Ocean Cafe buffet is there for self-service dining. For late night revellers the Sky Lounge came alive from 11pm and a particular highlight was the Silent Disco night (you are given a headset playing 3 different styles of music).

First port of call was Cozumel, Mexico. If souvenir shopping is what you want then no need to wander past the purpose built port complex. 3kms down the road is the original port and the centre. Further afield, organised shore excursions will bring you to view Mayan Ruins, beach & snorkel trips.Me and the other agents spent the day unwinding on Grand Cayman’s legendary 7 Mile Beach. For $4 each way, hawkers will drive you to one of the bar & pool complexes along this stunning beach. Entry was $2 for the pool area and $35 for the beach with 2 loungers & an umbrella. A very popular excursion is Stingray Sandbar where you can feed, swim & snorkel with these beautiful creatures. Some guests made their way inland to a place called Hell. Just consisting of a post office, you can post card to you self or friends from Hell and say you have been to Hell and back! From Falmouth, Jamaica we did the excursion to climb the Dunns River falls. An hour and a half away but well worth it and afterwards a couple of hours at a beach club. Lunch included $99. Very popular too was the Bob Marley Experience excursion which will take you to the childhood home of the Reggae King.

Finally, Labadee, Hispaniola. It’s been 10 years since I have visited and was very impressed with how Royal Caribbean have developed it. Maintaining its natural look, but nestled away are beautiful beaches, the Dragons Breath Zip Line, Dragons Tail Coaster Ride and waterslides. We had the privilege of using Barefoot Beach – yet another benefit for the Suite Only guest on Celebrity Cruises.
Our last day of the cruise was completely at sea, where we enjoyed all the facilities the amazing Celebrity Reflection had to offer.”

Well he surely made all of us jealous.

U.K: Flights may be affected as ground workers plan 48-hour strike from 23 December at 18 airports.

More than 1,500 members of the Unite union employed at Heathrow, Gatwick and 16 other UK airports will stage a 48-hour strike starting on December 23,

Airlines have not ruled out flight cancellations, while industry insiders said disruption is “inevitable” and warned passengers to be prepared for their luggage to arrive at their destinations days after they do.

As well as Heathrow and Gatwick, the Unite strike will affect Aberdeen, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Doncaster, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds/Bradford, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton and Stansted.

Celebrity Eclipse will be the first major cruise ship to homeport Dublin

Celebrity Eclipse will be the first major cruise ship to homeport Dublin

Celebrity Cruises is to be the first major cruise line to use Dublin as a homeport when Eclipse, one of its Solstice-class ships, is based here for a mini-season during early summer 2018.  Celebrity Cruises are expected to boost Dublin's economy with their cruises with an estimated €6million injection to the local economy.

The 2,800-plus passenger cruise ship will sail from Dublin for five northern Europe cruises between late April to the end of June 2018.  More than 14,000 people are expected to start their cruise holidays from Dublin on a Celebrity Cruises ship in 2018, many will come from the US.  Irish cruise specialists e-Travel are currently offering packages for Celebrity Eclipse from €1289pps for an 8 night Norwegian Fjords cruise and from €1339pps for a 10 night Iceland and Ireland cruise.  For something really special, combine a must-see world sporting event with a modern luxury cruise from Dublin to Amsterdam. First port of call is beautiful Paris, where you’ll enjoy VIP seats for the ladies’ singles final of the French Open then sail on through the British Isles, waking up nearly every morning in a new port full of exciting discoveries.  This package starts at €2125 pps.

For sheer convenience and a stress-free start to a modern luxury holiday, these round-trip cruises to the Norwegian Fjords or Iceland can’t be beaten. Think no long flights, lengthy airport delays or tiresome transfers, plus more space for luggage and duty-free shopping!  And to have such sailings from Ireland on the flagship Celebrity Eclipse is really something special.

More than 180,000 cruise passengers have passed through Dublin Port in 2016 during more than 100 cruise ship calls.  Celebrity Cruises’ Solstice-class ships are the newest in its fleet, introduced between 2008 and 2012.  The company has won several awards, particularly for its food and wine, and boasts the largest and rarest collection of wine at sea plus onboard restaurants overseen by a Michelin-starred executive chef.  Celebrity Cruises is part of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, the second largest cruise business in the world, and has a fleet of 12 ships with two new ships on order, scheduled to join the fleet in 2018 and 2020.

Established in 1997, e-travel is now one of Ireland’s leading independent travel agents, specialising in cruising as well as flights, long-haul and online bookings and are the only 100% Irish owned and managed online agency in Ireland. e-travel’s award winning team offer expertise and advice, early booking discounts, onboard credit, champagne in your cabin and lots more!  The e-travel Cruise department can be contacted on 01 4081999 or www.e-travel.ie.

MSC Cruises Celebrates the 'Float-Out' of its Newest and Largest Cruise Ship Seaside

MSC Cruises celebrated the float out of its newest -- and largest -- ship MSC Seaside last week.
The 5,200-passenger megaship, which will launch in December next year, was floated out -- the first time the ship touches water -- at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.
MSC Seaside -- which will be based year-round in Miami and sail Caribbean itineraries -- will be the first MSC ship to be christened outside of Italy, underscoring the line's commitment to the US market.
The 160,000-ton ship will be joined by a sister, MSC Seaview, in June 2018, with an option on a third in 2021.
Each ship has been especially designed for warm climes, and will feature an outdoor promenade filled with shops, bars and alfresco dining.

It also features a Miami-style beach condo design (pictured above), with more than three quarters of the cabins outside facing.
Each ship will have 463,000 square feet of public space, including panoramic elevators with sea views, suspended glass floors and, a giant aquapark.
Pierfrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises Executive Chairman, said: "This is another exciting milestone in our ambitious expansion plans as we see the second of our 11 next-generation ships entering the final stages of her construction.
"MSC Seaside has been specifically designed to provide our guests with a unique onboard experience in warmer regions and boasts one the highest ratio of outdoor space in the industry so that guests can enjoy a range of open-air activities such as dining and drinking al fresco, strolling along the promenade or simply taking in the beautiful sea views from the privacy of one of the many balcony cabins."
The float out is an important milestone in the construction of a cruise ship as it is the moment where the ship first floats on water when the dry dock is flooded and the ship is moved to a wet dock for the final phase of her construction. The exterior of the ship is complete and work moves to complete interiors, fixtures and fittings.
